닭실마을, 청암정에 가다! Trip to Daksil village and Cheongam Pavilion![WDU 동양학과 조인철 교수] 뒤에 산을 배경으로 하고 앞에 물을 임하고 있으니까 배산임수(背山臨水)라고 해요. [Professor Zho In-Choul of the Department of Oriental Science, WDU] It's called Baesan-Imsu because the mountain is set in the background and the water is in front of it. 북정남동(北靜南動), 배정임동(背靜臨動) 이렇게 얘기할 수 있겠죠. You can say this : static North and dynamic South, static Front and dynamic Rear. 뒤쪽은 정적이고 앞쪽은 동적인 것이 좋다. It's better to be static at the back and dynamic at the front. 배산임수도 마찬가지죠. 산은 정적이고 물은 동적이죠. The same goes for Baesan-Imsu. The mountains are still and the water is dynamic. 그런 원칙들이 기본적으로 지켜져야 되죠. You have to keep these principles basically. 사실 이곳은 충재 권벌 선생의 동네예요. Actually, this is Chungjae Kyueon-Bul's neighborhood.권벌 선생은 그 당시 퇴계 선생의 제자들 중에서도 상당한 실력자 중 한 사람이었죠. He was one of the most influential figures of Toegye's students at that time. 여기를 말하자면 사랑채이고 마을 전체가 안채죠. Here corresponds to Saranchae(the men’s part of the house), and the whole village corresponds to Anchae(the main house). 이걸 음양(陰陽)으로 따지면 사랑채는 양의 공간이고 안채는 음의 공간이죠. If you look at this place in yin and yang, Saranchae belongs to yang and Anchae to yin. 그 안(마을)에 사랑채와 안채가 또 있죠. There are also a Saranchae and a Anchae in the village.그걸 음 속에 양이 있고 양 속에 음이 있다고 보죠. Let's say there's a yang in the yin and there's a yin in the yang. 대머리처럼 보이죠. 보통 저것도 금성체(金星體)에 속해요. It looks like bald. It usually belongs to the metallic shapes. 위가 둥글죠. 몸체는 퍼졌지만 위는 둥근 형태예요. Its top is round. Its body spreads out, but its top is in a round shape. 양쪽에 날개가 있다고 보는 거죠. 저쪽으로 날개 하나, 이쪽으로 날개 하나. It has wings on both sides. One wing over there, the other wing over here. 그랬을 때 저쪽이 머리 부분이라고 보죠. Let's say that's the head part. 금성체는 주로 비금류(飛禽類), 즉 날아다니는 새의 종류에 많이 있죠. There are a lot of metallic shapes in the feathered tribes, that is, types of flying bird. 여기서 볼 때 금성체가 중심이냐 저기서 볼 때의 (금성체를) 중심으로 보느냐, 이것에 따라 다르죠. It depends on whether you look at the metallic shapes as the center or as the center here or there. 건물을 지으면서 가장 주안점을 두었던 시설이 어떤 것인가-안채였던가 사랑채였던가? What was the emphasis in building a house- either Anchae or Saranchae? 이런 것을 판단해보면 답이 나오죠. If you judge this, you get the answer. 이제 우리가 가서 안채 중심의 건물인지 사랑채 중심의 건물인지를 알아봅시다. Now let's go and see if its center is Saranchae or Anchae. 청암정(靑巖亭)은 바위 위에 집을 지은 것이지요. (바위) 위에 정자를 지었으니 정자 이름을 무엇이라고 했을까요? Cheongam Pavilion was built on a rock. What is the pavilion (on the rock) called? [WDU 동양학과 조인철 교수] “청암정을 실제로 보면 이걸(바위를) 어떤 동물에 비유하겠어요?” [Professor Zho In-Choul] “When you actually look at the Cheongam Pavilion, which animal would you compare the rock (under the pavilion) to?” (답사 학생) “거북이요.” [a student] “Turtle.” [WDU 동양학과 조인철 교수] “그렇죠.” [Professor Zho In-Choul] “Right.” 여기 닭실마을은 사랑채 중심이다. The core of this village, Daksil, is Sarangchae. 청암정이 있고 저쪽에서 물을 받아 여기로 끌어다가 이 물로 농사를 짓겠다는 생각이죠. There's Cheongamjeong Pavilion, and people were going to bring water from there and farm with it. 닭실마을에서 청암이라는 바위가 핵심인 거죠. The rock, called Cheongam, is the core of the village. 바위가 있고 밑에 물이 있어요. There's a rock and water underneath. 바위와 물은 어떤 관계인가요? What is the relationship between the rock and the water? 금 기운이 있고 물 기운이 있어요. 금생수(金生水)죠. There are the energy of metal and the energy of water. Metal makes water vitalize. 금 기운으로 수 기운을 더 불러일으켜서 그 물을 농사짓는 곳으로 공급했죠. They aroused the more energy of water with the energy of metal and fed the water to farming areas. 수구에 머물던 사람들은 대문 앞에서 놀다 돌아가고 Those who stayed at the entrance of the water hung out only in front of the gate. 이 안까지 들어올 수 있는 사람은 상당히 (친밀도의) 수준이 높은 사람이죠. The people who could get in here were pretty close. 여기서 퇴계 선생이 다니시기도 하고 충재 선생이 앉아서 어떤 분이 오시나 보기도 하고, Toegye would walk around and Chungjae used to sit down (on Cheongam Pavilion), and see someone coming. 이곳이 택리지에 나오게 된 배경이에요. That’s why this place was included in Taekrigi(one of geological books of Chosun Dynasty). 이곳에 오면 청암정에 들러 충재 선생을 알현하고 가야 제대로 동네를 구경하고 가는 거예요.
